April was raised in Warner Robins, Georgia and received her B.S. in Criminal Justice summa cum laude from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and M.S. in Criminology from Florida State University.

April received the Walter F. George Public Service Scholarship to attend Mercer University School of Law and graduated in 2009 earning the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award.

While at Mercer, April served as a mentor and executive officer with the Black Law Students Association and Association of Women Law Students. April served as Vice Chair of Mercer’s Moot Court Board, won First Place Team in the Emory Civil Rights Moot Court Competition and Quarterfinalist in the Wechsler Buffalo Moot Court Competition. April coached two championship teams and was inducted into the Order of the Barristers.

During law school, April interned for a year as a Law Clerk in the Civil Division of the Office of the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia and interned for a summer with South Central Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).

April resides in Marietta and enjoys Northside football, community service with her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and weekend trips.
