Austin Gillis joined Moore Ingram Johnson & Steele in 2013, as a member of the firm’s Litigation Department. His practice areas include Insurance/Liability Defense, Commercial Litigation, and Business Litigation. Austin is admitted to practice in Georgia and Tennessee. He is also admitted to practice in the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, the United States 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
Austin is a native of Marietta, Georgia, and a graduate of Marietta High School. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Oglethorpe University in 2001, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2004. Austin spent three years working as the staff attorney for the Honorable J. Stephen Schuster of the Superior Court of Cobb County. He has been in private practice since 2007, working primarily in the field in insurance defense.
Austin is a Trustee on the Board of Trustees at Oglethorpe University, where he previously served as the President of the national Alumni Association. He also serves on the board at The Extension, a residential addiction recovery center for homeless men and women in Cobb County. He has long been involved in the High School Mock Trial program, on the state and local level, as an attorney coach and as an evaluator. Austin is also active in bar activities, state and local. He is a two-time editor of the Cobb Bar News, the award-winning newsletter for the Cobb County Bar Association. Austin received the Cobb County Bar Association President’s Award in 2005.
Austin lives in Marietta, Georgia, with his wife Molly and their two children. Austin enjoys playing softball, strumming his guitar, and watching Braves baseball and Georgia Bulldogs football.
