INTRODUCTION TO KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE
Settled in 1786, Knoxville is the third largest city in Tennessee. Knoxville has a population of approximately 175,000 people. According to U.S. Census estimates, the Knoxville metropolitan area has an estimated population of approximately 690,000 people.
Knoxville is located in eastern Tennessee. Knoxville is home to one Fortune 1000 company, the Regal Entertainment Group.
Knoxville’s climate is characterized by four distinct seasons. Winters are cool and summers tend to be hot. January is the coldest month of the year with an average daily temperature of 46 degrees Fahrenheit. July is the warmest month of the year with an average daily temperature of 88 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame
For sports enthusiasts, Knoxville is home the the Women’s basketball hall of fame. Knoxville is also home to the Knoxville Ice Bears, a minor league hockey team who play in the the Southern Professional Hockey League. The Tennessee Smokies of Minor League Baseball (MiLB) play twenty-five minutes east of Knoxville in Kodak, Tennessee. The Smokies are a Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Further away, MiLB’s Greeneville Astros play in Greenville, Tennessee. The Astros are a Rookie League affiliate of the Houston Astros. Another Rookie League team, the Kingsport Mets, play an hour and a half northeast in Kingsport, TN. They are an affiliate of the New York Mets.
